The John D.K. Dorgbetor Foundation has reaffirmed its dedication to improving academic standards at Agbogbla Basic School in the South Tongu district of the Volta Region.

Mr Benjamin Dorgbetor, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation pledged his continuous support to bridge the escalating educational gap in the community during an awards giving ceremony organized by his foundation to celebrate the young talents of the school.

The Foundation has a long history of supporting the school, having previously provided a state-of-the-art computer lab, essential furniture for classrooms, educational materials and books, community streetlights, a children’s playground, and annual awards and scholarships to outstanding students.

Mr Dorgbetor acknowledged the challenges facing the institution, including inadequate infrastructure and limited resources.

Despite these hurdles, the foundation’s support has yielded significant improvements in academic performance.

“The foundation is committed to empowering the next generation,” Mr Dorgbetor stated “We believe education is the key to unlocking potential, and we’ll continue to invest in Agbogbla School.”

He noted that the school’s pass rate in the Basic Education Certificate Examination had increased from 12 per cent to 65 per cent in the past, but recently dropped.

Mr Dorgbetor expressed concern over the decline and emphasized the need for stakeholders to address the issue.

“We need to come together to find solutions and ensure our students achieve academic excellence.”

He emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts, urging parents, teachers, and the community to join forces with the foundation to create a conducive learning environment.

Mr Edward Wilberforce Gbetodeme, representing the South Tongu Ghana Education Service (GES) Directorate, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the leadership of the John D.K. Dorgbetor Foundation.

He emphasised GES’ commitment to continuing its partnership with the Foundation to achieve shared goals of enhancing the school’s academic standards.

Mr Gbetodeme encouraged students to seize learning opportunities and strive to become future leaders of Ghana.

He also urged parents to actively support their children’s educational journey, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in fostering academic excellence.

Mr Klu K. Morkporkpor, headteacher of Agbogbla D/A Primary School also thanked the foundation for its unwavering support.

He stated that the foundation’s contributions have significantly impacted the school, providing a computer lab with 10 desktop computers, 62 mono desks, playing equipment for KG, and award schemes.

“Their efforts have yielded positive results as the school obtained the first place in the Inter-School Circuit Spellings Bee, and excellence in sports and cultural activities.

However, the school still faces challenges, such as the deteriorating JHS block, lack of science and creative arts and design teachers.”

Mr Morkporkpor appealed for assistance in rebuilding the JHS block, supporting vulnerable students, providing more textbooks and sports equipment, completing fencing, and installing playing equipment for KG, and implementing a Teacher Motivation package for Creche, Nursery, and Kindergarten.

The Award Ceremony was under the theme: “44 years of basic education; charting the way forward for excellence.”

Awards, including assorted educational materials and certificates were given to 43 students from Basic one to JHS 3.
