    Keta: Schools, colleges hold music, culture competition

    The Southern Zone-1 Schools and Colleges Music and Culture Association has held its 17th second cycle inter-schools’ festival of arts and culture to promote these subjects among the students.

    Hosted by Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO), the festival was to inculcate into the new generations the best form of African cultural practices among the various ethnic groups in the country.

    Madam Matilda Dzotefe, the Chairperson of the Festival in charge of organisation, told the Ghana News Agency that 10 schools within Keta and Anloga had participated in the competition.

    The students competed in choral music, sight singing, drum language, poetry recital, drama, dance, ampe, and talent hunt.

    Others were cook arts, fashion design, still life drawing, figure drawing, construction, and assemblage exhibition.

    Madam Dzotefe said culture coordinators from the two districts held various orientation meetings for the participants towards effective and adequate delivery.

    Togbi Dzelu IV, the Dufia of Dzelukope, a suburb of Keta, and Chairman for the occasion, commended the participating students and their instructors for displaying their rich culture through arts and others.

    He urged the public to assist schools in bringing out the best in students in the field of culture and art to promote the African culture globally.

    Mr Ferdinand Amuzu, Public Relation Officer, Keta Municipal Education Directorate, said all participating schools were given awards and certificates presented to best performing schools and students.

    Ten senior high schools participated. They included KETASCO, Keta Business School, Anyaa Senior High School (SHS) Abor, Atiavi  and Afiadenyigba SHSs, Anseco, Zico Tsiamesco, and Voltasco.

    Anyasco was adjudged as the best performing school in poetry recital with Ketasco winning the best Drama performing school, whilst Afiasec and Ketasco won the dance and ampe categories, respectively.

    Anseco was first in choral music with Zico winning sight singing and Ketasco the best in Drum Language category.

    Some teachers and participating students the GNA engaged with expressed satisfaction with the activities but appealed to the organisers to include more cultural and art activities in subsequent events.
