The Local Council of Churches in Dambai in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region has joined forces with other stakeholders to promote peace and violence-free elections in the upcoming December polls.

Speaking during the peace walk at Dambai, Bishop Noah Adeti, Chairman of the Council, appealed to all residents and Ghanaians to be objective and constructive in their criticisms and not to be unduly blinded by their political colour.

He charged the political parties and their candidates to undertake their campaign in manners that did not seek to malign their opponents.

Bishop Adeti said politics of insults, ethnocentric, trivialities and unnecessary rivalry that exacerbated tensions, should be ended in our political discourse and other forms of engagement.

He called on the Clergy and other religions bodies in Ghana to continue to educate their members and institute fasting and prayers for their members to cry out to God for peace as the nation goes to polls on December 7.

Mr Clement Kwasi Mamadu, Krachi East Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), urged citizens to desist from misinformation and disinformation, hate speech attacks, provocative utterances and political ethnic violence, which had the potential to cause tension.

Mr Mamadu appealed to Ghanaians, especially the energetic youth to stay away from violence and extremist tendencies before, during and after the 2024 general elections.

Mr Nelson Kofi Djabab, the parliamentary candidate (PC) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Krachi East constituency, has pledged to preach peace at all times wherever he finds himself.

Mr Djabab said he had the responsibility of contributing his quota to ensuring that the tenets of peace were adhered to in his constituency and the country as a whole

Mr Charles Gyamfi Boateng, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi East, on behalf of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has also made a commitment to ensuring peaceful elections in the constituency come December.

His pledged was a welcome development, especially considering the region’s history of benefiting from NPP initiatives, such as the elevation of Krachi East to a constituency and administrative district under former president John Agyekum Kuffour’s administration.

The event attended by the Municipal Director of NCCE and staffs, former DCE for Krachi East, Religious leaders of local Council of Churches in Dambai, youth wings, voters, NPP party sympathizers, NDC supporters, identifiable groups, parliamentary candidate of NDC and Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
