The Lower Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region is set to get a major boost to its sporting infrastructure with the construction of a new AstroTurf stadium facility.

The project, which is expected to be completed in less than months, is aimed at providing a world-class sports facility for the people of the district and promoting the development of sports in the region.

The Middle Development Authority is undertaking the project as part of the $1 million per constituency initiative at Laasi Park, which includes spectator stands, washrooms, and other ancillary facilities and is slated to be completed in less than six months.

Mr. Simon Kweku Tetteh, the Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo and the NPP parliamentary candidate for the December 2024 elections, noted that Lower Manya Krobo has produced great players such as Thomas Teye Partey of Arsenal Fc.

“Many youngsters in Lower Manya have football ability but having a decent pitch to shape their skills and talents has been an issue,” he said, and that building of the AstroTurf was timely.

He emphasized the need to provide a platform for young men and women in the area to discover, nurture, and develop their football talents.

The construction firm in charge of the AstroTurf project is B.K.A. Cobin Enterprise Limited, led by Mr. Benjamin Anna, who highlighted the maintenance requirements of the artificial grass.

He noted that the AstroTurf pitch was sometimes used for purposes other than its intended use, and unfortunately, this could affect its durability.

“Yes, it can be used for other purposes, but we must ensure that after each use, a good maintenance schedule is followed,” he emphasized.

He also pointed out that when people use the pitch for programs like weddings, they must clean the place afterwards to prevent ants and bacteria from destroying the artificial grass, otherwise its lifespan would be shortened.
