A two-year programme to promote environmental practices, improve the quality and responsiveness of vocational education and training (VET) schools to socioeconomic opportunities in the labour market in Africa, has been launched.

The Project dubbed “CircuWasteVetAfrica” will also analyze the skills gap in the green waste management and circular economy sector. It is being funded by the ERASMUS+ programme in collaboration with the European Commission. Implementing countries in Africa for the CircuWasteVetAfrica project are Namibia, Ghana, Angola and Sao Tome.

It would take off with a train-the-trainer programme that will equip vocational, education and training managers with relevant skills, including Digital Innovation, Micro-entrepreneurship, and Circular Business Model courses followed by a learners programme.

These were contained in a statement jointly signed by Mr. Emmanuel Nyarko Ankamah, National Coordinator, Presbyterian Relief Services and Development (PRSD) and Mr. Anthony Sarkodie Amankwah, PRSD Project Team Lead, and Vice Principal, Academic and Skills Delivery at the Ramseyer Technical Institute, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi.

The statement explained that the project would contribute to the Green and Digital Transition (Twin Transition) in line with the ambitious environmental goals of the European Green Deal and Europe- African Strategic Partnership. This vision would help cities and regions leverage digital tools for a carbon-neutral, sustainable future, the statement indicated.

According to the statement, the programme would strategically partner with relevant private and public sector organizations to ensure that courses were developed based on industry-relevant skills and ensure it is replicated in other VET schools. The project consortium led by AREA, an organization from Italy, will work alongside key partners from Europe and Africa.

European partners include MUNDUS from Spain, Federazione CNOS-FAP from Italy, and MQ from Portugal, while its African partners include VIS ANGOLA, Presbyterian Relief Services and Development, Centro de Formação Profissional de São Tomé e Príncipe, and Swakopmund Municipality from Angola, Ghana, São Tomé, and Namibia respectively.

This diverse partnership is integral for EU-Africa collaborations, a collaboration that combines expertise from both continents to drive green skills and Circular Economy education and foster a unique international exchange of knowledge and resources, the statement added.
