The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Malta Guinness Ghana officially inaugurated the 2023/24 Women’s Premier League season on Wednesday, October 11.
The event, held at the Fitzgerald in Accra, saw the presence of GFA and Malta Guinness Ghana executives, along with representatives from all 20 participating clubs.
This season’s launch comes on the heels of Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ triumph in the previous domestic campaign. Gifty Oware-Mensah, a recently elected Executive Council member of the GFA and President of Berry Ladies, expressed her delight at the progress of women’s football in recent years. She emphasized that teams can anticipate an enhanced financial package as their entry fee for the upcoming season.
Malta Guinness is embarking on the second year of their three-year sponsorship deal with the GFA for the Women’s Premier League. Estella Muzito, the Marketing & Innovation Director of Guinness Ghana Limited, expressed the company’s anticipation for yet another exciting season after the success of the 2022/23 campaign.
During the first season, we witnessed tremendous support from fans and the unwavering determination of these incredibly talented young athletes during the games,” Nson remarked. She further emphasized how women’s football is solidifying its well-deserved position in the hearts and minds of the people.
Muzito continued, “I am excited to share why the upcoming second season of this partnership is poised to be even better than the first. Malta Guinness has always been deeply committed to creating a ‘Can-Do’ World. We are pleased that through this collaboration with the GFA, we can shed more light on Women’s football in the country, dispel misconceptions, provide equal opportunities for Women footballers, and promote sports development across the country.”
She also acknowledged significant progress and, with continued unwavering support, expressed confidence in making substantial strides in elevating the reputation of Ghana even further.
The new season of the Ghana Women’s Premier League is scheduled to commence during the weekend of October 27-30, 2023.
