President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to revoke public sector employment has drawn criticism from the Minority, with former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam leading the charge.

Addressing the Parliamentary Press Corps on Monday in Parliament House, Accra, at dubbed: “True State of the Nation Address” by the New Patriotic Party Minority Caucus, Dr Amin Adam slammed President Mahama’s policies, accusing him of terminating jobs and allegedly creating uncertainty for young Ghanaians.

He said: “The termination of the jobs of young Ghanaians, which has become synonymous with President Mahama as’Te rminator 1,’ is a sign of what is yet to come. “…Sacking people from employment and replacing them later with others does not amount to job creation. What the people of Ghana want are new jobs for those yet to be employed,” he said.

Dr Amin Adam also argued that President Mahama’s policies, such as “nkoko nkitinkiti,” could not create sustainable jobs for the youth.

He, however accused the President of artificially inflating employment figures by terminating existing jobs and later filling those same positions.

Dr Amin Adam pointed out an alleged double standards of President Mahama recalling that …”in 2016, the President defended the right of an outgoing administration to recruit, and sign deals until midnight on January 7, when its term officially ended.,” he said.

He warned that the dismissals would only worsen unemployment, contradicting President Mahama’s promise to fix the crisis.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has also weighed in, calling on Presudent Mahama to reconsider the mass revocation of public sector jobs.

The TUC argued that the terminations would worsen the unemployment situation and cause hardship for those affected.
