The Internal Audit Agency (IAA) has held a day’s workshop to sensitize staff of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) on the Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT) and Data Collection Tool to enhance governance and accountability.

Participants including Internal Auditors, Finance Officers, Budgeting, Planning and Procurement Offers drawn from the MMDAs in the Northern and Savannah Regions, were updated on the data collection tool and its functionalities to enable them to submit accurate data as part of the PFMCLT.

The PFMCLT is an innovative tool that assesses and ranks the financial management compliance of MMDAs. Mr. Abdulai Saani, Northern Regional Internal Auditor, speaking during the workshop in Tamale, said it was a crucial step towards promoting transparency, accountability, and sound economic management practices at public institutions.

He told the participants that “This workshop is not just about compliance but also about ensuring that we are using our resources efficiently and effectively to deliver quality services to our citizens, and promoting fiscal discipline, reducing corruption and improving transparency and accountability.”

Dr Eric Oduro Osae, Director-General of IAA, whose speech was read on his behalf by Mr. Alhassan Fuseini, Head of Projects, Coordinating and Monitoring Unit at IAA, said the workshop was to ensure effective engagement and understanding of all participants on the assessment tool. He emphasized that “Without an efficient system for managing public resources, the country runs the risk of underdevelopment.”
