Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Hon. Archibald Cobbina has begun an encroachment assessment at the Tetegu Densu river.
The Regional Director, the Ghana Police Service, the Regional Director of Highways, the NADMO Director for the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly, and some of the organization’s staff members visited the area to examine a building site on the Tetegu Densu river’s passageway.
The condition in the area is such that the land capacity for construction appears to slope, posing a hazard to the lives of residents in the vicinity whenever it rains or the Weija dam overflows.
Speaking on the issue, the Regional Director for Highways, Engineer Lawrence Lamptey indicated that the land has to be dredged since it serves as a holding can for the Densu river. “The dredging will help create a passageway for the Densu river to aid free flow of water when the dam is spilled or when it rains”, he stated.
The region was dredged with residue left on the ground a few years ago, which allowed the present land owner to begin building on the Densu river tunnel.
The Regional Director for NADMO also added that some materials will be needed for the dredging and will be done while liaising with NADMO and the Regional Minister.
About 4 locations of a dump fill site have been detected for the transfer of residue that will be removed during the dredging, according to a staff member for the NADMO Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly (name withheld). “Residents around the Tetegu Densu river will have to evacuate the place in a time to come since the area posses as a threat to their lives” he added.
