A National AI for Youth programme has been launched to help students have access to modules suitable to build solutions to address challenges in health, agriculture and climate change.

The programme being championed by Coral Reef Innovation Hub in partnership with Intel is also expected to help students tackle issues in education, finance and others.

Ghana happens to be the second country after South Africa to launch this programme on the continent.

Speaking at the launch at the Association International School in Accra, a Deputy Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Kwabena Tandoh, underlined the need for students, staff and parents to leverage on technology to help make work easier.

He further highlighted plans by the GES to introduce technology to all students across the country to help them understand the need and advantages of technology, and the importance of artificial intelligence.

The Africa and IGA CTO Liasion for Intel, Dr Bienvenu Soglo, highlighted the modules available for the students which have been designed to provide accurate understanding of A.I. technology and its impact for society

It is also expected to provide students with ability the avenue to use A.I. tools and methodologies responsibly to create purposeful solutions and, finally, use A.I. to make meaningful solutions to address various local and global challenges.

Managing Partner at Coral Reef Innovation Hub, Mr. Richard Anim, announced plans by his outfit to train over 1,400 teachers, deploy AI smart labs in 700 schools with over 45,000 devices and by extension, train a million students across the country.

He called on government, groups, schools and individuals to partner with them to make this a reality.

The National AI For Youth Programme will be rolled out in schools across Ghana. This will then lead to The National AI For Youth Competition from which winners will represent Ghana at the Intel AI Global Impact Festival.

Other speakers such as David A. Ofori, Director of Innovation, NEIP; Lady Fatima Alimohammed, Founder & CEO, African Brand Warrior; and Lady Omega, CEO of Ampersand Technologies underscored the need to embrace Artificial Intelligence as a tool to aid the transformation of the continent.
