Mr Bright Yaw Kelvin Afeku, a Native of Wli in the Volta Region, has donated a six-seater water closet (WC) to his alma mater; Wli Central M.A Junior High School, to enhance sanitation.

The facility will solve one of the many challenges the school faces while ensuring that pupils stayed in school to promote teaching and learning.

Mr. Afeku, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), handing over the facility, said it was time to give back to the community, which had raised and nurtured him. The school had challenges including the lack of a classroom block for the form one learners, he said, and expressed the hope that he would build a modern one for the school. Mr. Afeku called for good maintenance of the facility while urging the learners to take their studies seriously.

Mr. Stephen Kongoe, Headmaster of the School, said the facility had halted the incidence of students visiting the bush to attend to nature’s call and exposing themselves to danger. He said management would provide disinfectant to keep the facility hygienic.

Regent Musa of Wli Afegame, on behalf of the community, commended Mr Afeku for the gesture and meeting the deadline for the project. Mr. Newton Darkey, Hohoe Constituency Chairman, NDC, said such gestures reduced the burden on the government to ensure better sanitary conditions for schools and urged all individuals to make an impact on their alma mater.

He said places of convenience made it easier for girls to stay in school during their menstrual periods and called for proper maintenance of the WC to prolong its lifespan. Madam Regina Elanyo Daketsey, Assemblywoman of Wli Afegame, commended the donor for the facility and the teachers for playing their roles effectively.
