Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama, as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on March 13, 2025.

He was subsequently sworn-in office on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Presidency in Accra. COP Yohunu, who takes over the mantle of the Police leadership from COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare, brings his 40 years of experience to the position of IGP and is expected to oversee the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service.

Prior to his elevation, COP Yohunu was the Deputy IGP. He is a dedicated, outstanding and professional law enforcement officer with 40 years of extensive practical police experience spanning both national and international levels.

He is highly motivated professional with a persevering attitude always focused on the task at hand and executing work and tasks effectively and efficiently to achieve targeted goals independently and or as a team member.

IGP Yohunu is a strategic, dynamic and meticulous individual, who maintains strict confidentiality and has an uncompromising devotion to service whilst continuously developing long lasting solutions to matters of security and general life issues. As the Deputy IGP, occupying a high managerial position, it was his aspiration to serve the people of Ghana at the highest level of the Inspector-General of Police.

He intends to galvanize his management team to work in partnership with the Ghanaian community to deliver prompt security, protection and safety to the people. He has a burning desire to tackle crime at its roots to reduce if not eliminate the fear of crime leading to an improved life for the citizenry.

He aims to lead by example to elicit compliance with high professional standards from all police officers to meet the expectation of the people in keeping with the national constitutional mandate. It is his utmost objective to lift high the image and pride of the Ghana Police Service in tandem with the vision of the service to become a world class police service capable of delivering a planned, democratic, protective and peaceful service up to international best practice.

IGP Yohunu holds an Executive master’s in business administration (MBA) Project Management Option from the University of Ghana Business School, University of Ghana, and Bachelor of Science in Administration (Human Resource Management) option, University of Ghana Business School, University of Ghana.

He has an Intermediate A and B, Institute of Chartered Accountant (ICAG), Institute of Professional Studies, Legon, 1988- 1990, and a General certificate of Education, Advance Level, Okuapeman Secondary School,1980-1982.

He also has a General certificate of Education West African Examination Council, Ordinary Level, 1975-1980, and a Diploma in Police Administration, Cadet Officer’s course, Ghana Police College, Accra- commissioned into the officer corps- (13/ 03 /1992). He also graduated as a Chief Inspector -General Policing, (01/08/1986) at the Ghana National Police Training School.
