Rawlings issues first salvo against Prof Ahwoi’s book

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has issued his first salvo against Prof Kwamena Ahwoi’s book about him. In a tweet on Monday, Mr Rawlings brushed aside comments about the book being released at a wrong time.

“There is nothing ill-timed about Kwamena Ahwoi serving ‘dankwasere’ soup at this time. He needed to knock down Rawlings to pre-empt the exposure of Rawlings’ book ‘The Triumph of Evil’ promises to reveal about some of them,” he tweeted.

‘Working for Rawlings’ chronicles Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi’s experience while working with Mr Rawlings.

The former Local Government Minister also spoke about the political history of Ghana between 1979 to 2010.

Commenting about the book, renowned journalist Raymond Archer has said the timing of Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi’s release of his ‘Working for Rawlings’ book is inappropriate.

He said the content of the book does not present the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a good light, therefore, it should not have been released at a time when the party is preparing for a major election.

“There’s a reason why people vote and there’s a reason why people select themselves to be voted for, so [you’ll think] politicians will like to present themselves in the best light possible.

“But does this book present the NDC and it’s key members, some of whom are actually contesting, in the best light possible? No,” he said.

Also commenting about the book, Dan Abodakpi, the Chairman for the Volta Regional Council of Elders for the NDC described portions of the book as an attempt to discredit the political legacy of Mr. Rawlings.

He said some inaccuracies referenced in the Prof Awhoi’s tell-it-all, unfortunately, portrays him as “an accessory to any grand agenda to delink Mr. Rawlings from the NDC as the party that he founded.”

Issuing his first salvo since the release of the book, Mr. Rawlings said people like Prof Kwamena Ahwoi “do not expect the NPP to let go of 2020, so they are hoping to utilize the opportunity of a loss, to damage Rawlings with some vicious, manufactured stuff.”

The former president said by Prof Ahwoi and his ilk’s cunning calculation the NDC flagbearer, “John Mahama and his running mate will step aside after 2020 while they consolidate their control over the party and provide their flagbearer and running mate for 2024.”
