The Shama District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a quiz competition and other educative activities for selected schools within the area.

The competition was held in collaboration with the Shama District Assembly and the Ministry of Education as part of activities to mark this year’s Independence Day celebration.

Three schools selected from the Inchaban Circuit, namely; Inchaban Methodist A, Inchaban Methodist B and Inchaban D/A Junior High School (JHS) participated in the contest.

It was on the theme: “Ghana’s Future – Our Collective Responsibility”, and attended by the District Coordinating Director, traditional leaders, heads of departments, teachers, pupils from the participating schools, and members of the public.

At the end of the competition, Inchaban Methodist B emerged as winners with 60 points, Inchaban D/A JHS placed second with 54 points, and Inchaban Methodist A came third with 50 points. The schools were each presented with a plaque, certificates of recognition, copies of the 1992 Constitution, and unspecified amount of cash prizes.

Ms Grace Ahenakwah, the Officer-In-Charge of Shama District NCCE, during the competition said the quiz competition was to instil a sense of patriotism, and acquaint the students with the content of the 1992 Constitution.

She said it was also to educate them on their duties as citizens, the history of Ghana, current affairs and values of good governance for national development.

She stated that the Independence Day reminded Ghanaians of how patriotic and nationalist the forefathers were and the need for the citizenry to reflect on their selflessness to change their attitude and contribute towards building a better Ghana for the next generation.

She added that the theme for the event was a call on Ghanaians to be responsible citizens by being law abiding, protecting the environment, and leaving in harmony with one another.

She, thus, encouraged the students to take their studies seriously to attain higher educational credentials for a brighter future.

Mr Richard Blevi, the Shama District Coordinating Director encouraged civil and public servants to have a change of mind-set towards work, and fit into the resetting agenda of the government.

The head teachers from the participating schools applauded the NCCE for the honour done them, and pledged their support to help maintain the civic education clubs in their various schools.
