    VRCC intends to institute a comprehensive Peace Pact to champion rapid development

    The Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) intends to institute a Peace Award Pact to guide the conduct of peacebuilding for development in the region.The Peace Award Scheme would be instituted by the VRCC, in partnership with the Regional House of Chiefs and the Regional Peace Council to come out with procedures.

    Mr James Gunu, the Regional Minister, who made the announcement on Thursday, during an award scheme organised by the Regional Peace Council Secretariat, said the VRCC remained committed to promoting sustainable peace and development across all districts and communities.

    The Recipients include, His Eminence Clemence Gyato, a peace Ambassador; The Muslim Community, the Ecumenical Council, The Church of Pentecost, Reverend Nelson Agbove, Church of Pentecost, Ho Bankoe, the Regional Police Command and the 66th Artillery Regiment.

    The Regional Minister said Peace was the foundation of every meaningful development and without it, all aspirations of progress remained a distant dream.He said the Region, rich in ethnic  diversity, cultures and dominions, the importance of peace could not be overstated as it attracted investment, fostered social justice and delivered effective governance.

    He said the VRCC’s overriding mission was to facilitate the overall development of the Region by effectively and efficiently harmonising, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating all plans, policies  and programmess within the context of excellence, transparency and accountable governance.

    The Minister commended the Peace Council for taking the lead in honouring these heroes of peace, saying “Your work reinforces the idea that promoting tolerance, resolving conflict, and nurturing unity for noble and necessary persons.”

    Mr Gunu urged all including leaders, civil society organisations, community, organizations, traditional authorities, and the media to remain steadfast in upholding the values of peace, dialogue, and mutual respect.“For it is only in an environment of peace that our dreams can take root and flourish.”

    Rev Seth Mawutor, Chairman of the Regional Peace Council, said the awards scheme set out to rewards these institutions, who played diverse roles towards shaping the conduct of the 2024 general elections.He paid glowing tribute to His Eminence Gyato for exemplifying tenacity of mobilising resources for holding the awards scheme, which he said deserved special commendation.
