Hundreds of houses in parts of Weija, a suburb of Accra, have been flooded following the spillage of the Weija Dam, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes.

The flooding has displaced many families, leaving residents stranded and uncertain about where they will spend the night after being caught off guard by the sudden rise in water levels.

Reporting from the affected area, 3news correspondent Michael Ogbodu said areas that were previously dry land became completely submerged within hours after the dam spillage.

According to him, many residents abandoned their homes in an attempt to save their belongings, while others relied on canoes to transport their possessions to safer locations.

He described the extent of the flooding as severe, noting that the water level had risen close to waist height in some areas, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Residents affected by the flooding are now appealing for urgent assistance as concerns grow over shelter, safety, and the possible destruction of property caused by the floodwaters.
