The Yunyoo-Nasuan District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held the second phase of the Inter-party Dialogue Committee meeting for political parties and other stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence among members of the area.

The meeting was aimed at reinforcing the crucial role of political parties as key stakeholders in ensuring peace and security in the country before, during and after the 2024 elections.

It also sought to establish effective procedures for addressing inter-party and intra-party grievances.

In attendance were various stakeholders including representatives of political parties, women groups, people living with disabilities, security agencies, religious leaders, opinion and traditional leaders amongst others.

Topics covered included monitoring and reporting threats and vulnerabilities to violent extremism, ways to detect youth radicalisation and signs of recruitment, and mediation and resolution of local conflicts.

The meeting, which formed part of the Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism project, being implemented by the NCCE with funding support from the European Union, also featured an open forum for participants to share opinions and offer constructive suggestions to promoting peace.

Mr. Emmanuel Kombat, Yunyoo-Nasuan District Director of NCCE, speaking during the event at Jimbale in the district in the North East Region, urged all stakeholders to preach peace now, during and after this year’s general election.

Mr. Kombat emphasised that peace and tolerance were essential in sustaining the country’s democracy, hence the need for all to preach peace.

He said: “Any setback or challenges to democracy in Ghana’s 2024 elections could have a negative effect on the country.”

Mr. Waris Dramani, Yunyoo-Nasuan District Director of the Electoral Commission, spoke about measures put in place to ensure that this year’s elections were free, fair and transparent.

He emphasised the need for all to cherish the peace in the area to ensure successful polls in December.

Mr. Alhassan Yidana, Yunyoo-Nasuan District Director of the National Investigations Bureau, took participants through violent extremism, expressing the need for all to be alert in their communities to fish out suspicious characters.
