The Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) is gearing up for a landmark transformation, with organisers announcing that the festival will be hosted outside Ghana for the first time in 2027 — a bold step that signals ABF’s evolution into a truly continental showcase of sport and culture.

The announcement was made during the launch of the 2025 edition, which also marked the festival’s 5th anniversary. In honour of the milestone, organisers unveiled a unique “Five Theme” that will shape the 2025 experience.

    The theme features:

    • Five countries competing,

    • Five fashion brands showcasing their creativity,

    • Five musical performances lighting up the stage, and

    • A five-day festival, running from December 10th to 14th,
held at the University of Ghana Basketball Court from 3 pm daily.

The symbolic use of the number five adds a special commemorative touch to this year’s celebration.

Delivering the headline announcement, Mr. Yaw Sakyi Afari, Head of RITE Sports Services — organisers of ABF — confirmed that, for the first time, the Africa Basketball Festival will be staged outside Ghana in 2027. The move represents a significant milestone in ABF’s mission to deepen cultural exchange, broaden its reach, and solidify its status as one of Africa’s premier multi-sport entertainment events.

The 2025 launch event set the tone for what is expected to be the festival’s most exciting edition yet, blending competitive sport, music, fashion, and African creativity in a vibrant, youth-driven atmosphere.

As the countdown to December 10 begins, anticipation is rising — not only for the 5th anniversary celebrations but also for the new chapter ABF is preparing to open on the continental stage in 2027.

The 2025 Africa Basketball Festival is sponsored by Glico General Insurance, GTS Drilling, Indomie Noodles, GTV Sports Plus, Points Africa, Warrior King Watches, Lamborghini Energy Drink, The Luckiest, Minimie Atsomo, Lush Hair, Verna Water, Ghana Basketball Association, Nkonkonsa.com, Awuah Sports, Sporty FM, Nescafe, and the Ghana Tourism Authority.

The event is organised by RITE Sports Services and hosted by the University of Ghana Sports & Wellness Directorate.
