The new price was announced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as he opened the new cocoa season.

It was also announced that the cocoa season will now begin in September from the previous October.

President Akufo-Addo says the new price is the highest in West Africa in the past 15 years.

He noted that the price increase was to sustain cocoa production in the country, which he admits is the backbone of the economy.
