Ghanaian academic, lawyer and former Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Tsatsu Tsikata, has revealed that the state is primarily responsible for taking care of crimes.
In an interview with Tv3’s Alfred Ocansey, monitored by Myghanadaily, Mr. Tsikata explained that when it comes to crime both the church and state hold a responsibility to tackle the issue of crime.
“Prisons, administration of justice, taking care of crimes are things that the state is primarily responsible for” he stated. For me, the church has to help heighten the sense of urgency that the leaders of the state have in relation to issues around prisons.
He further advised that the state should not only concentrate on how much goes into the feeding conditions of prisons in Ghana but the health conditions of these prisoners should be a priority in Ghana.
“The ultramodern building for prisoners which was recently built for prisoners by the church has highlighted that the health conditions of prisoners and poor conditions of prisons are of concern and should be looked at’, Mr. Tsikata added.
