The leadership of the striking labour unions in public universities are expected to meet the National Labour Commission (NLC) on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

Members of the unions have been on strike for over three weeks following what they say is the failure of government to deliver on agreed conditions of service.

The unions have raised concerns with the adjusted ex-pump rate of GH¢10.99 being implemented to affect Vehicle Maintenance and Off-Campus Allowances.

Speaking to Citi News on behalf of the unions, the National Secretary of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, Dr. Asare Asante Annor said they are poised to meet government.

“So we are going to meet on November 30, 2022, two weeks ago, we were supposed to meet, but we couldn’t because both the employer and TUTAG requested for some form of extra time. However, over the last two weeks, we still have not been able to engage in any meeting, so we still haven’t found any solutions to the impasse.”

“The reasons why we still want to engage is the variations of the conditions of service, specifically the vehicle maintenance, has not come. So if government is able to prepare distribution, then we will be happy, and I’m sure our members too will be happy,” Dr. Annor said.

The various striking labour unions include University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Senior Staff Association (SSA) and Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU).
