Traders at the Takoradi Central Business district of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis (STMA), have called on the new government to see to the immediate completion of the Takoradi Market Circle project.

According to them, their businesses faced challenges due to low patronage due to the temporal market. In an interview with some of the traders by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Peace Agboshie, a corn dough and maize seller, said traders were divided into two main groups, one at the Takoradi Jubilee grounds and others at the Takoradi Port quarters popularly known as the ‘New Market.’

According to her business was booming at the Jubilee grounds since most consumers made their purchases from them, whereas those in the new market faced low patronage from customers thereby affecting their businesses. “The goods we sell are all we depend on to support our families so if business comes to a standstill we suffer together with our families “, she said.

Madam Marian Asmah, an okro and pepper seller also shared the same sentiments and appealed to the government to come to their aid. She also called on the government to operationalize the women’s bank initiative so they could have access to flexible loans to keep their businesses going.

Madam Asmah prayed that security would be intensified in the market to ensure the safety of their goods, adding that they often recorded thefts in the market.

Others also expressed optimism about the new government and hoped the new government would bring on board good and strategic initiatives to boost economic growth and improve upon the living conditions of the ordinary Ghanaian.
