The Kadjebi District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service, has observed Child Health Promotion Week, calling for regular weighing of children.

Many caregivers are unaware of basic child health needs, such as immunization, nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention. Therefore, health education empowers them with the knowledge to act.

Mrs. Mabel Amankwa-Amoah, Kadjebi District Health Promotion Officer, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.

She stated that the week was observed under the theme: “Every Child Deserves a Healthy Future; Invest in Your Child. Attend Weighting Regularly,” and emphasized regular weighting because “it’s simple, low-cost way to protect children’s health and support their future.”

The Health Promotion Officer told GNA they engaged community members, local leaders, schools, and caregivers in the district to improve the health and well-being of children across the district.

Mrs. Amankwa-Amoah also sensitised the public on vitamin A supplement and deworming, use of insecticide-treated net for protection against malaria, and hygiene promotion, among others.

She added that child health is everyone’s responsibility-not just parents, but also schools, leaders, and neighbours all have a role to play.

She stated that a healthy child grows into a productive adult, and a stronger child means a stronger community, as immunization, growth monitoring, and other services keep children safe and stronger from the start.
