Mr Jerry Ameko, Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE) has stated that no portion of Adaklu land would be ceded to any district or traditional area.
He therefore urged all citizens of Adaklu to help protect its territorial boundaries and work hard to maximize revenue for the district. Mr Ameko was speaking at the sod cutting ceremony of an Ultra-modern library, ICT centre and science laboratory for Adaklu Kodzobi Basic school in the Adaklu district.
He said Adaklu Kodzobi community formed an integral part of the district and stated that the Assembly would not allow the Ho Municipal Assembly to intrude into the area to collect revenue. “The district has sat down unconcerned for far too long and allowed some districts to collect revenue from some Adaklu communities,” he said.
The DCE alleged that all major development projects coming to the Ho Municipal area would now be sited on Adaklu land “but we shall not allow that to be used to derive Adaklu of its revenue.” Mr Ameko who is also Dean of DCEs in the Volta Region, reminded the people that education was “more precious than even gold and therefore cannot be exchanged for anything.”
He urged all stakeholders in the district to collaborate to uplift the dwindling standard of education in the district. Mr Ameko called on all communities in the district to form local task forces to help monitor the performance of students, especially at the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
He stated that there was a programme for girls in the country to compete in ICT and Adaklu was given 50 slots and therefore called on teachers and parents to adequately prepare those who would be selected to take part in the competition. He disclosed that plans were far advanced to build a community ICT centre in the district.
The Dean continued that he was also working with other stakeholders to improve the district’s poor telecommunication network. “Adaklu now is a potential tourism destination and a gateway to the Volta region, so we have to work to improve on the challenging telecommunication network in the district,” he noted.
Mr Ameko pledged the full support of the Assembly to the project adding “I will liaise with the Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways who is also the Member of Parliament for Adaklu to pool resources for the successful completion of the project.
He assured the people that he was committed to working to leave not “a fingerprint but a footprint behind as I am not going to be a local champion.” Dr. Hilary Gbedemah, Rector, The Law Institute, Accra who is also a representative of the sponsors of the project disclosed that the community would foot one third of the cost component of the project.
She said the project was being sponsored by Eric and Auriol Earle of the United Kingdom through Ghana School Aid, an educational NGO with an amount of 20,000 pounds sterling. Dr. Gbedemah advised the people to shy away from lamentations and try to find solution to their challenges. She said being a youth should not be a barrier to success but rather an asset.
Dr Gbedemah praised Togbe Dzegblade IV, Chief of the community for being developmental oriented and trustworthy, adding that his track records in executing development projects was par excellent. Mrs Thywill Eyra Kpe, Regional Director, Department of Gender advised parents to give their children a special attention especially the girls and nurture them to become responsible adults.
He expressed her gratitude for the project describing it as a perpetual and a memorial befitting the community. Mr Mac-Peter Dumatonu, Adaklu District Director of Education thanked the sponsors for the project which he said would not only benefit the Basic school at Adaklu Kodzobi but also all the schools in the district. Togbe Dzegblade disclosed that he would use his own resources to pay one third percent that the community was to pay. He appealed to the DCE and MP to also support the project with sand and chippings.
Togbe Dzegblade lamented that the community had never benefitted from any government sponsored project and appealed to the authorities to remember the community when sharing the national cake specially to tackle the road linking the community to Ho. Mr. Kofi Ohene of the Ghana School Aid donated 15 bags of cement to support the project.
