GCB Bank PLC has been selected as the official bank to handle collections for the newly introduced Ghana Sports Fund, a national initiative set up to provide sustainable funding for sports development in Ghana. The announcement was made during a visit by GCB officials to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, on January 27, 2026.
The Ghana Sports Fund, established under Act 1159, is designed to mobilise and manage resources to support the construction and maintenance of sports facilities, improve athlete welfare and development, promote grassroots and youth sports, and fund Ghana’s participation in regional and international competitions.
The Sports Minister welcomed the partnership and expressed confidence in GCB Bank’s ability to help grow the Fund through efficient collections and sound investment strategies. GCB’s management, represented by its Executive Head of Corporate Banking, Linus Kumi, assured the Ministry of the Bank’s full commitment, noting that the Fund would be actively supported and not merely held as a dormant account.
GCB also pledged to use its strong digital platforms and extensive nationwide branch network to ensure transparency, efficiency, and easy access to contribute to the Fund. The delegation, led by the Bank’s Chief of Staff, Abraham Ferguson Yahaya, highlighted GCB’s institutional support for the initiative.
With the largest branch network in Ghana, GCB Bank continues to play a major role in supporting national development and government initiatives, staying true to its long-standing mission as Ghana’s leading indigenous bank.
