Management of the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture has announced plans to embark on a major redevelopment of the facility beginning April 1, 2026, at an estimated cost of $200 million.

The extensive renovation will include the construction of a new bungalow, a refurbished mausoleum, a modern library, a scholar’s residence and a theatre, aimed at transforming the Centre into a world-class Pan-African hub.

The Executive Director of the Centre, Japheth Aryiku, disclosed the details during a visit by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. He explained that the project is expected to be completed by February 23, 2027, when the newly restored bungalow will be officially dedicated.

Mr Aryiku added that fundraising efforts are ongoing, noting that the redevelopment also involves building a new museum to showcase the 95-year life and legacy of W.E.B. Du Bois, alongside a library that will house his complete collection of books.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin welcomed the initiative, describing it as a transformative project that will position Ghana at the heart of global Pan-Africanism. He noted that the modernisation of the Centre would strengthen Ghana’s historical and cultural ties with Africans in the diaspora.

According to Mr Bagbin, once completed, the Centre will serve as a global focal point for Pan-Africanism, honouring the legacy of W.E.B. Du Bois as a central figure in the movement.
