The Egypt has donated 9,500 doses of hepatitis C vaccines, valued at nearly $80,000, to Ghana as part of efforts to deepen bilateral health cooperation.
At a presentation ceremony held on March 24, the Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, Wael Fathy Ahmed, described the gesture as a reflection of strengthening ties between the two countries. He stressed the importance of African nations working together to address shared health challenges and reduce dependence on external assistance.
He also highlighted broader opportunities for collaboration, particularly in pharmaceutical development and local vaccine production in Ghana.
Receiving the donation, Deputy Minister of Health Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah expressed appreciation, noting that support from fellow African countries is critical at a time when global aid is declining. She underscored the role of such partnerships in promoting health sovereignty and improving access to essential medicines.
The vaccines were subsequently handed over to the Ghana Health Service for distribution across the country.
