The government is set to officially commission and deploy 100 newly acquired buses for the Metro Mass Transit Limited to strengthen its transport services across the country.
The commissioning will be led by the Joseph Bukari Nikpe, alongside Deputy Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey, at the company’s headquarters in Accra. The buses will be officially inaugurated by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
The deployment of the buses is expected to ease transport difficulties for commuters, particularly in major urban areas such as Accra, Kumasi, and Tema, as well as other densely populated districts across the country.
Officials say the initiative represents a significant step toward improving Ghana’s public transport system, which has long been affected by overcrowding, delays, and limited fleet capacity.
The 29-seater Isuzu Geyushi buses, imported from Egypt, are part of a broader government plan to acquire 300 buses to improve both urban mobility and transport services in underserved rural areas.
The Deputy Transport Minister played a key role in facilitating the acquisition process, including engagements with manufacturers in Egypt to ensure smooth delivery of the buses for use on Ghanaian roads.
