The women’s wing of Cocoa Marketing Company, known as the CMC Ladies Club, has carried out a menstrual hygiene outreach programme in selected Junior High Schools in Aburi to mark International Menstrual Hygiene Month.
The initiative engaged students from Ahwerease M/A JHS, Aburi Presbyterian JHS A and B, and Aburi Anglican School, focusing on menstrual health education, personal hygiene, confidence building, and the wellbeing of adolescent girls.
During the outreach, members of the club held interactive sessions where girls were encouraged to openly discuss menstrual health issues, ask questions, and receive guidance on proper menstrual care. Organisers said the programme aimed to educate the students while helping to eliminate the stigma and silence often associated with menstruation.
As part of the exercise, sanitary pads were distributed to the students to support their hygiene needs and help them remain confident and active in school.
Speaking at the event, Alfredina Ebakyi Dick Kobinah, National Organizer of the CMC Ladies, highlighted the importance of supporting young girls through menstrual health education and access to sanitary products.
She stated that every girl deserves the knowledge, confidence, and support needed to manage menstruation with dignity. According to her, the outreach formed part of the club’s efforts to empower girls, encourage them to remain focused on their education, and challenge the stigma surrounding menstruation.
She further emphasized that menstrual health is not only about hygiene but also about dignity, equal opportunities, and ensuring girls remain in school. The students were encouraged to take proper care of themselves and speak openly when they need support.
The initiative was well received by both school authorities and students. A girls’ prefect who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the CMC Ladies for the education and sanitary products provided, noting that the programme had helped many girls better understand menstruation and manage it confidently and hygienically.
School officials also praised the intervention, describing it as impactful and beneficial to the students’ personal development and self-esteem.
The outreach forms part of the CMC Ladies Club’s broader efforts to promote women’s empowerment, adolescent health education, and community support. Organisers noted that improving access to menstrual health information and sanitary products plays a key role in boosting school attendance, confidence, and the overall wellbeing of young girls.
