Five former Ghana international footballers spanning different generations have been honoured by home appliance and consumer electronics brand BRÜHM in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the country’s football history.

The honourees are Rev. Osei Kofi, a member of Ghana’s 1963 and 1965 Africa Cup of Nations-winning teams; Ibrahim Sunday, the 1971 African Footballer of the Year and a runner-up at the 1972 AFCON; Mohammed Ahmed “Polo”, an AFCON winner in 1978; Nii Odartey Lamptey, a member of Ghana’s victorious 1995 FIFA U-17 World Cup team; and Dan Quaye, who won the 2001 CAF Champions League.

The five legends were celebrated during a dinner held at the Alisa Hotel on July 31, 2026, under the BRÜHM Honours Legends campaign, an initiative designed to recognise the achievements and lasting impact of former Ghanaian footballers.

Collectively, the award recipients have contributed to some of Ghana’s greatest football milestones, including Africa Cup of Nations triumphs, continental club success, FIFA youth championships and the country’s historic first appearance at the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006.

Each football legend received a commemorative citation, a BRÜHM television and a BRÜHM refrigerator.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from government, the sports fraternity, the corporate sector and the media. Guests included Shivesh Srivastava, General Manager and Business Head of Somotex Ghana Limited; Roshanak Taheri, Head of Marketing for BRÜHM Global; Veronica Commey, Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority; officials from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation; Dr. Joseph Obeng, former President of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) and member of the Governing Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM); business partners, media personalities and invited guests.

The event featured documentary screenings highlighting the careers of the five football icons, cultural performances by the Ayitah Cultural Agency, a musical performance by Rama Black and tributes celebrating their contributions to Ghanaian football.

Speaking at the event, Roshanak Taheri, Head of Marketing for BRÜHM Global, said the campaign was created to honour the pioneers whose achievements continue to inspire generations of Ghanaians.

She noted that many of Ghana’s greatest football moments were experienced in homes and community viewing centres, making it fitting for a household brand like BRÜHM to celebrate the heroes behind those cherished memories.

Awurakua Antwi, Marketing Manager for BRÜHM Ghana and Somotex Ghana Limited, said the initiative reflects the company’s long-standing relationship with Ghanaian families.

She explained that BRÜHM has been part of homes across the country for decades, where families have gathered around television sets to celebrate memorable football victories, adding that the campaign seeks to preserve the stories of the players who made those moments possible.

Delivering the keynote goodwill message, Veronica Commey, Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority, commended BRÜHM for recognising former sports personalities while they are still alive.

She encouraged other corporate organisations to emulate the initiative, describing it as an important contribution to preserving Ghana’s sporting heritage and inspiring future generations.

Also addressing the gathering, Shivesh Srivastava, General Manager and Business Head of Somotex Ghana Limited, said the company sees the campaign as part of its broader commitment to giving back to the communities it serves.

According to him, while BRÜHM continues to improve everyday life through its products, it is equally important to celebrate individuals whose achievements have brought pride and inspiration to Ghana.

The BRÜHM Honours Legends campaign combines documentary storytelling, digital engagement and public activities to preserve the legacy of Ghana’s football greats and ensure their achievements continue to inspire generations to come.
