The Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Abdullai Zakaria, is receiving emergency medical treatment after he was allegedly attacked by students on campus over claims that he buried a newborn baby.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, leaving the headmaster with severe head injuries reportedly inflicted with cutlasses.
Mr. Zakaria was initially treated at the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital in Obuasi before being transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for specialised medical care.
Speaking on Ghanakoma, a morning programme on Akoma 87.9 FM on Wednesday, August 5, citizen journalist Great Aakash confirmed the incident, stating that the headmaster sustained deep cuts to the head during the assault.
According to him, the Ashanti Regional Security Council is expected to hold an emergency meeting to assess the situation after receiving a comprehensive briefing on the circumstances surrounding the violence.
The outcome of the meeting will determine whether the school should be temporarily closed to prevent further unrest.
Meanwhile, armed police officers have been deployed to the campus to maintain law and order, secure the school premises and prevent any further disturbances.
Police have launched investigations into both the allegations surrounding the reported burial of a newborn baby and the violent attack on the headmaster. Authorities are yet to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
