Academic City University has organised a large-scale free health screening exercise for students and residents within the Ga East Municipal Assembly as part of its annual Health Week activities.

The initiative, which has been running since 2023, reflects the university’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and community wellbeing. This year’s edition, held under the theme “Nourishing Mind, Body and Essence,” attracted more than 120 participants from nearby communities who benefited from medical check-ups and professional health advice.

A team of healthcare professionals provided a range of services focused on early detection and wellness. The screening covered HIV/AIDS testing, malaria and typhoid checks, diabetes and hypertension screening, dental care, eye examinations, and public education on disease prevention.

The programme was supported by partners including Glico Health Insurance, Just Ask Pharmacy, North Legon Hospital, Canaryblue Laboratory Services, and Kyikyi Eyewear.

Speaking at the event, Dr Amanda Kwakye highlighted the importance of such outreach programmes in improving access to healthcare. She noted that early diagnosis of conditions like hypertension and diabetes can significantly improve treatment outcomes and reduce long-term complications.

Dr Kwakye also stressed the importance of health education, explaining that participants were guided on maintaining healthy lifestyles through proper nutrition, regular exercise, and preventive practices against diseases such as malaria.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, especially for those who had not undergone medical check-ups in a long time.
