The prosecution held that Rosemond deliberately posted the pictures on social media.

Social media personality Rosemond Brown has been given a 90-day jail term following her conviction on charges of publication of obscene material and domestic violence.

Widely known as Akuapem Poloo, Rosemond Brown was found guilty of posting a nude photo of herself and her seven-year-old son on June 30, 2020, his birthday.

She pleaded guilty to all three charges on Wednesday and was convicted on her own plea by the court though she had initially pleaded not guilty.

She was handed her sentence today, Friday, April 16, 2021, by an Accra circuit court.

Rosemond Brown’s lawyers plan to appeal the sentence.

The judge, Christina Cann, bemoaned the spate of nudity on the Ghanaian social media space.

According to her, the punishment meted out to Rosemond Brown must serve as a deterrent to others.

The complainant in the case was Bright Appiah, who is the Director of Child Rights International Ghana.

He petitioned the police after the photo went viral on social media, and the matter was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

The prosecution said Rosemund after her arrest in 2020 admitted posting the nude picture with her son but insisted she did so unintentionally.

A write-up accompanying the picture read: “I am naked in front of you because this is how naked I was giving birth to you, so in case you find me lying somewhere don’t pass by but see me as your mom who brought you to life.”

The prosecution held that Rosemond deliberately posted the pictures on social media.

Rosemond Brown has received some support from Ghanaians who have described her conviction as harsh.

The hashtag “FreeAkuapemPoloo” was trending on social media after her conviction on Wednesday

Prominent Ghanaians in the entertainment industry like Sarkodie, Efya, Hajia For Real, Akumaa Mama Zimbi voiced their support for Rosemond Brown and urged that she be released.
