    Bretuo royal family officially inform Asantehene of the death of Asante-Mamponghene

    The Bretuo royal family of Asante Mampong on Monday, April 28, 2025, formally informed the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, of the passing of Dasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Paramount Chief of the Asante Mampong traditional area.

    Daasebre Osei Bonsu, the occupant of the Silver Stool of Asanteman, is the second-in-command of the traditional leadership of the Asante Kingdom.

    A traditional delegation, led by Nana Afrakoma Dufie, the queen mother of Asante Mampong, conveyed the solemn news to the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace, in accordance with the Asante customs and traditions.

    The queen mother announced that Dasebre Osei Bonsu II, ascended to join his ancestors on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the age of 86.

    Privately known as Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie, Daasebre Osei Bonsu, was born on December 31, 1939, and was an esteemed alumnus of Prempeh College and the University of Ghana, Legon.

    Prior to his ascension to the silver stool, Daasebre Osei Bonsu, a lawyer by profession, served as the Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

    Throughout his 26-year reign, he facilitated substantial development within the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area and garnered recognition for his unwavering commitment to fostering peace and stability.

    In the wake of the announcement, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II directed the Mampong traditional council to officially observe the customary rites, including the ceremonial beating of drums, to formally announce the chief’s passing, as tradition mandated.
