Mr. Egypt Kudoto, the Volta Regional Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Chairman of the Vetting Committee of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) aspirants, has stated that the selection process would prioritize competence and a results-driven mindset.

Addressing the media and aspirants at the beginning of the vetting process on Tuesday, in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, Mr. Kudoto emphasised the enormity of the task ahead. He described the current state of some Assemblies as dire, with many struggling to fulfill basic operational needs. “We all know what is happening in some Assemblies. There are Assemblies that cannot even afford A4 sheets. Some rely on foreign funds just to fuel their vehicles. This tells you there is a heavy workload awaiting those of you, who will be occupying the office of Municipal or District Chief Executive,” he said.

Mr. Kudoto noted that the vetting process forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader “Resetting Ghana” agenda, which seeks to revive and strengthen local governance systems. “This programme is part of our Resetting Ghana agenda promised by His Excellency. The process starts from the assemblies, especially as some have been in a coma over the past eight years. What this means is that we will go for competence. We will go for those hungry for results, those who can breathe new life into our assemblies and ensure the realization of the Resetting Ghana vision,” he explained.

He highlighted the importance of humility and a people-centered approach, noting that the NDC, as a social democratic party, expects its appointees to prioritize the welfare of the people over personal interests. “The Ghanaian people are the ones you will be serving. As a social democratic party, we expect a certain level of humility from those who will occupy these offices. It is not about self-interest but about promoting the interest of our people above all else,” he said.

Mr. Kudoto also urged aspirants to remain united, regardless of the outcome of the vetting process. “At the end of this exercise, only one person will be appointed for each assembly. The rest of you must support that individual to help the assemblies grow because we are all part of the same party. Let us emerge from this process as a united family, ready to prosecute our agenda, especially here in the Volta Region, the party’s World Bank,” he encouraged.

The vetting process for MMDCE aspirants in the Volta Region began with the Hohoe Municipality and will conclude with the Ho Municipality. A total of 287 aspirants—254 males and 33 females—are to be vetted across the region’s 18 municipal and district assemblies. Mr. Kudoto reminded aspirants that leadership at the local government level is pivotal to achieving the NDC’s vision and ensuring that the assemblies function effectively as the base of the party’s operations.
