    Constitution review committee announces stakeholder and zonal engagement

    The Constitution Review Committee has announced plans to engage both targeted stakeholders and the general public as part of its ongoing efforts to review and amend Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

    In a statement dated Friday, March 7, the Secretariat of the Constitution Review Committee said the engagements will be conducted in two formats:

    • Targeted Stakeholder Engagements: These will focus on specific thematic areas of the Constitution, involving consultations with experts, public institutions, professional groups, trade unions, civil society organizations, political parties, and other interested parties. The aim is to gather specialized input to inform the review process.
    • Zonal Public Engagements: Open forums will be held across various zones nationwide to solicit the views and contributions of the general public, ensuring that citizens have a platform to participate in the constitutional review process.

    The Committee has invited written submissions from stakeholders and interested individuals to assist in planning and scheduling these engagements. This initiative underscores the Committee’s commitment to fostering inclusive participation in shaping the nation’s constitutional framework.

    Thematic Areas include:
    1 Lands and Natural Resources -Submission should be received by March 12
    2 Decentralization and Local Government & Chieftaincy- March 15
    3 Public Services and Enterprises- March 20
    4 Executive Advisory Councils (Council of State, IGP and Police Service Council, Prison Service Council, Armed Forces Service Council, National Security Council)- March 20
    5 Independent Constitutional Bodies/Offices
    6 The Directive Principles of State Policy, Social and Economic Rights, and NDPC-March 20
    7 Political Parties -March 20
    8 The Political Branches (Executive & Legislature)-March 20
    9 The Judiciary- March 20
    10 Others (Finance: Central Bank/Governor, Public Debt Management, etc., Discretionary Power, Dual Citizenship, Amendment Procedure) -March 20

    A series of National Validation Engagements will be held on a zonal basis at locations across the country based on the schedule below:

    Zone Date

    Zone 1 – Accra April 7-8
    Zone 2 – Tamale / Bolga April 10-11
    Zone 3 – Wa April 14-15
    Zone 4 – Kumasi April 22-23
    Zone 5 – Takoradi / Cape Coast April 25-26
    Zone 6 – Koforidua April 29-30
    Zone 7 – Ho May 5-6

    The Committee has set up the following channels for submissions:

    1. Email Submissions – Memoranda can be sent electronically to submissions@constitutionreviewgh.org

    2. Interactive website for Online Submissions & Public Engagement – www.constitutionreviewgh.org

    3. In-Person Submissions – Written submissions may be delivered to the CRC Secretariat at:

    Abdul Diouf Road, Ridge-Accra.
