The Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na Abukari II, has died, throwing the kingdom into a period of mourning.
His passing was officially announced on Monday, July 13, by the Head of the Dagbon Kingmakers, Kuga Naa Adam Abdulai II, following the performance of customary rites at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
In keeping with Dagbon tradition, the announcement was preceded by the beating of the traditional talking drum and other customary rituals that formally signify the death of a Ya-Na.
The late overlord has since been buried in accordance with Dagbon customs.
The death of Ya-Na Abukari II marks a significant moment in the history of the Dagbon Kingdom. Traditional authorities are expected to announce the next steps in the succession process after the completion of the required funeral rites.
