Hundreds of residents from Dome-Kwabenya, Comet, Berekuso, Agyementi and Kitase have taken to the streets in a peaceful demonstration to demand the immediate rehabilitation and completion of the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase Road.
The demonstration, organised by the Dome-Kwabenya–Kitase Road Stakeholders Committee, seeks to draw attention to the deteriorating state of the road and the challenges it continues to pose to residents, commuters, transport operators and businesses in the affected communities.
Speaking to Citi News on Monday, August 17, demonstrators said they had exhausted various avenues of engagement with the authorities and were compelled to protest to demand urgent action.
“This road is a huge problem for us. It makes our movement very difficult and disruptive. We are pleading with the government to work on our roads for us,” one demonstrator said
Another protester said the road had remained in poor condition for about two decades.
“This is a peaceful demonstration for our roads to be fixed. The road has not been fixed in 20 years. We need our roads to be fixed.”
Residents also expressed concern about the health risks associated with the poor road conditions, particularly the dust generated by vehicles using the route.
The protesters are therefore calling on the government and relevant authorities to prioritise the rehabilitation and completion of the road, which they say will ease transportation difficulties and improve living and business conditions in the affected communities.
