The Melcom Group of Companies has announced the appointment of Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, former Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, as its new Communications and Strategy Consultant.

The announcement was made during a press soiree held as part of activities marking the company’s 36th anniversary of retail operations in Ghana.

Melcom used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to a customer-first strategy, describing it as a cornerstone of its long-term sustainability.

The company also outlined plans to deepen community engagement through enhanced corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, in line with its broader vision of contributing to national development.

According to management, Dr. Awal’s appointment forms part of efforts to strengthen the company’s brand visibility, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication in a competitive retail landscape.

Speaking to the media after the event, Dr. Awal emphasized the importance of remaining responsive to evolving consumer needs.

“Melcom has survived for over 35 years because of a winning strategy—one rooted in understanding the market and customer expectations,” he stated. “If you understand what customers want, you can deliver better than your competitors. Melcom’s strategy is to continuously monitor customer needs and not just meet, but exceed them.

He also highlighted Melcom’s efforts to maintain a positive presence in the media and the company’s strong track record in CSR.

“We want Melcom to be associated with positive stories—across radio, television, and print. That’s why we support the media. Over the last 10 years, Melcom has invested more than GHS 20 million in community development, including health, medication, and environmental initiatives.”
