Former Youth and Minister Enoch Teye Mensah has passed on at age 77. He died while receiving treatment in a hospital in South Africa.
ET Mensah, as he was affectionately called, died in the early hours of Monday, October 2, 3news.com can confirm.
Until his death, ET Mensah was a member of the Council of State.
He was defeated in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in 2015 by one-time protege Sam Nartey George in what degenerated into media exchanges between the two.
ET Mensah had referred to the current MP as a “pathological liar” for professing that the former minister had assured him of not contesting after 2012.
During his latter tenure in Parliament, the Sixth Parliament, the longest-serving Sports Minister was named as one of the ‘Three wise men’ together with current MP for Zebilla Cletus Avoka and current Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
The deceased also served in the NDC administration led by late Professor John Evans Atta Mills as the Minister of Employment and Social Welfare. He had a stint at the Education Ministry as well.
He was also a one-time Mayor of Accra.
He was awarded the Companion of the Order of the Volta by former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
