EC Deputy Chairperson Dr. Bossman Asare Resigns

Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) responsible for Corporate Affairs, has resigned from his position, effective July 31, 2026.

The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, June 15. He also revealed that Samuel Tettey, the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, has officially retired.

According to Kwakye Ofosu, Dr. Asare stated in his resignation letter that he is stepping down to return to academia and continue his work at the University of Ghana. He also expressed gratitude to the President and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve on the Electoral Commission.

The government spokesperson indicated that steps to fill the vacant positions are already underway. A nominee has been submitted to the Council of State for consideration, and an official announcement regarding Mr. Tettey’s replacement will be made after the Council completes its review. A separate process will then be initiated to appoint a successor to Dr. Asare.

The Electoral Commission is expected to provide additional information on the transition in the coming weeks.
