Freddie Blay to Appeal Remand Order Over Kitase Land Dispute

The legal team of Freddie Blay, former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has announced plans to challenge a court ruling that remanded him in police custody over a land dispute at Kitase.

His lawyers say they will file an appeal on March 17 at the Koforidua High Court, seeking to overturn the decision of the Akropong Circuit Court and secure his release while the case proceeds.

Mr. Blay was remanded on March 16 after appearing before the circuit court in connection with a dispute over ownership of a piece of land in Kitase. The matter reportedly began when an individual claiming ownership filed a complaint with the police, alleging unauthorized activity on the land.

Following the complaint, Mr. Blay was invited by police to assist with investigations. However, the situation escalated, leading to his arrest and subsequent court appearance.

After reviewing initial details of the case, the court ordered that he be held in custody as investigations continue.

His lawyer, Gregory Asiedu, described the remand as unjustified and expressed confidence that a higher court would overturn the decision.

He noted that the legal team has already begun the process of challenging the ruling and will be seeking bail for their client at the High Court in Koforidua.
