Ghana has taken steps to explore new maritime and trade opportunities with the United States following a high-level working visit to the Port of Philadelphia aimed at boosting economic cooperation between the two countries.
The delegation, which included the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and other government officials, toured the facility and received detailed briefings on its operations, logistics systems, infrastructure, and its role in global supply chains.
During the visit, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Emmanuel Victor Smith, stressed the importance of efficient port systems to Ghana’s export drive. He noted that modern and well-run ports are essential for expanding Ghana’s exports, particularly cocoa and cocoa-based products, as well as for improving value addition and competitiveness in international markets.
Abla Dzifa Gomashie also said Ghana is eager to strengthen cooperation in maritime-related sectors as part of its broader blue economy strategy. She explained that the country is focusing on areas such as maritime tourism, fisheries, coastal development, and marine-related industries to support sustainable economic growth.
