The Ghana Grid Company Limited has confirmed that a fire outbreak at its Akosombo Substation in the Eastern Region caused power interruptions in parts of the country.
The incident occurred around 2:01 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, disrupting operations at the facility and affecting electricity transmission. Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to contain the fire and assess the damage.
GRIDCo stated that its engineers are currently working to stabilise the power system and restore supply as quickly as possible. The company assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to minimise the impact of the outage.
A detailed technical assessment is ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage and guide restoration efforts. GRIDCo has also urged residents to remain calm, noting that steps are in place to ensure a swift return to normal operations.
