Ghana is a nation of laws, not men – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has stated that, we must be careful of ethnocentrism in politics in this country since Ghana is way beyond that.

Speaking on GH One Tv’s Breakfast Daily Show today, he revealed that, he hasn’t seen soldiers at registration centers, “I have seen military men at Banda within which deployment of military men with our borders has happened”.

Government is uncomfortable that the opposition NDC is whipping up ethnocentric sentiments, I urge Ghanaians, the media, and civil society groups to see the words of the opposition NDC for what it is because the language used can cause us a lot of harm as a nation; if they have challenges with the deployment of the military, there is a way to go about it, such sentiments from the opposition can cause the country a lot of mayhem, he said.

He added that, the NPP is starting with its campaign for the 2020 elections. The said campaign is based on three key factors as stated below:

    1. We are in times where people are looking out for leadership that has the capacity to manage the current crises that we are confronted with.

    2. Ghanaians are looking out for a leadership that has the capacity to restore and build livelihoods because where we are today is affecting a lot of occupations especially as a result of the global pandemic.

    3. Ghanaians are looking out for leadership that has the capacity to build the kind of Ghana that everyone expects.

The question is that, in the times of crisis who will Ghanaians be willing to vote for especially when the NPP and NDC governments have been in office before and Ghanaians have seen the performance of both parties, he added.

The NDC did not inherit an economy with crisis from President Mills, on his watch he (John Mahama) created an energy crisis for us but President Akufo- Addo has not created a crisis for himself, there is a global pandemic and amidst the crisis, President Akufo- Addo is managing the crisis on a daily basis by confronting Ghanaians on how he is tackling it.

He further stated that, the NPP will be liars if they say the NDC did not create some infrastructure, they did, but infrastructure is not the answer for everything in this country; Ghanaians will listen to both parties in order to make a decision on who to vote for.

NPP will not whip up ethnic sentiments but will focus on issues that will make the Ghanaian a better person. President Akufo- Addo has been a lawyer of high standing who believes in the rule of law, when some officials are accused, he allows the state agencies to investigate such officials, like Mr. Daniel Domelevo, Auditor general publicly said, “this the first time the office of the Auditor General has been resourced beyond what is happening in corruption in this country.”

He finally added that, President Akufo- Addo has gone a step further in making corruption a higher offense in this country by amending some laws and appointing a special prosecutor, since he is a President who is minded by the rule of law, he does not go against it.
