Parliament is set to commence the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, following the Christmas recess that ended the First Session in December 2025.
Ahead of the resumption, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business has engaged Ministers of State in a series of meetings to assess progress made during the previous session and align legislative priorities for the new sitting.
As parliamentary business resumes, several bills, ministerial statements on key national issues, and questions to Ministers are expected to be laid before the House. Lawmakers are anticipated to deliberate on a broad range of policy, governance, and development matters during the session.
Among the major issues scheduled for consideration is the persistent challenge of illegal mining (galamsey), which continues to pose serious environmental and socio-economic threats across the country.
Parliament is also expected to revisit the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly referred to as the Anti-LGBT Bill. The proposed legislation has generated significant public debate and controversy nationwide and is expected to provoke intense discussions among Members of Parliament, reflecting differing views within the House and across Ghanaian society.
The Second Session is widely expected to shape critical legislative outcomes and set the tone for the country’s governance and policy direction in the year ahead.
