Ghana’s crude oil production has continued its downward trend for the sixth consecutive year, falling from a peak of 71.4 million barrels to 37.3 million barrels in 2025, representing an average annual decline of 9%.
The figures were disclosed in the 2025 Annual Report by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC).
Speaking at the presentation of the report on Wednesday, April 8, PIAC Chairman Richard Ellimah described the sustained drop in production as a major concern that requires urgent attention.
He called on the government to deepen collaboration with the Petroleum Commission to attract investment into the sector and help reverse the decline.
Ellimah specifically recommended the development of a strategic framework to boost investment in existing oil fields, particularly the TEN field, which has recorded lower-than-expected output.
He further urged efforts to draw new investments into the petroleum industry as part of measures to stabilise and increase production levels.
