The doctoral programme, hosted by the Accra International Doctoral College, the university’s centre for advanced research and doctoral training, is designed to bridge professional experience with scholarly contribution.
The three-year, 96-credit programme combines advanced research training, structured supervision, publication development, original thesis work and a viva voce examination. It is anchored in African institutional realities, Christian ethical principles and global academic engagement.
Speaking at the launch, Chancellor and Founder of the University of Gold Coast, Bishop Dr Gideon Titi-Ofei, said the programme responds to the need for Ghana and Africa to become producers rather than only consumers of knowledge.
He explained that the PhD seeks to develop “Scholar Leaders” who can transform professional experience into evidence-based research and use knowledge to influence institutions.
“Ghana must become not only a consumer of knowledge, but also a producer of knowledge. A nation cannot outsource all its thinking,” he said.
Dr Titi-Ofei stressed that the programme is not focused merely on increasing the number of doctoral holders but on developing critical thinkers, credible researchers and ethical leaders whose ideas can shape businesses, government institutions and academic environments.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Cedric Bell, said the programme gives the institution a unique position in doctoral education by offering an African-focused but globally connected research experience.
He noted that the programme combines academic excellence with professional relevance, allowing executives and professionals to pursue advanced research without compromising academic standards.

Applications are currently open for the October 2026 intake.
