The Ghana statistical service (GSS) has extended the deadline for the 2021 population and housing census.  This was  disclosed at a press briefing held at GSS’ Headquarters on Sunday.

According to government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annnim data has been received on 80% of the households earmarked for the 2021 Population and Housing Census as at the 12th day of enumeration. He also said 181 out of 272 statistical districts were on course to complete data collection as at Sunday, July 11 2021.

He announced that the completion rates in some districts would have to continue.

” An initial mop-up period of 12th to 18th July has been scheduled to complete the work in the outstanding enumeration areas. So far out of 16 regions in Ghana, we have had above 80% of data collection from 12 of the regions with North East recording the highest of 97% with Greater Accra region recording the least of 55%”

The Greater Accra region will have the exercise continuing in 10  districts. These districts are Ga West, Ga North, Ayawaso West, Adenta, Ga East and Ledzokuku, La-Nkwantanang Madina, Kpone Katamanso, Shai Osudoku and Tema West, Prof said.

He continued by saying, ” we have identified 272 statistical districts and of these 272 statistical districts, 181 of them are on course to complete data collection as of today, so the next few days that we have identified for the clearance activities, we expect to receive data from the remaining 91 districts.”

The Census management also urged people who do not want to be counted to cooperate with the enumerators, while urging those who have yet to be counted to make themselves available by using the call back card or informing their neighbors when they will be available.
