Ghanaian hip-hop icon Joey B (real name Darryl Paa Kwesi Bannerman-Martin) took to his Instagram story (@1realjoeyb) to pour out love and gratitude for his father on his milestone 70th birthday. The award-winning rapper, known for his raw lyricism and hits across Afrobeats, hip-hop, and hiplife, shared a touching collection of throwback and recent photos alongside a deeply personal message that has fans emotional.

In one nostalgic shot, a young Joey B (then a little boy) is captured learning to ride a bicycle with his dad running alongside, holding the bike steady a classic father-son moment filled with encouragement and patience. The image, taken in a lush green setting, perfectly captures the joy and struggle of those early lessons. Joey paired it with more recent photos of his father looking sharp and timeless: one in a stylish blue denim jacket over a turtleneck, standing confidently by a fence with a serious yet warm expression; another in a beige vest and trousers combo, posing under sunny skies with signature sunglasses and a chain, exuding that effortless cool.

The heartfelt caption Joey sent to his dad reads:

“daddy, i love you man. 70yrs is insane! words arent enough. im happy i’ve made you proud and a true representation of you. you have taught me a LOT. made me the man i’ve become today. you have done so much but when think of you, i have 1 memory that will never leave my mind and its the day you taught me how to ride a bicycle. as a child, it was very hard. but now that im older, i’ve come to terms that life is about balance. just as riding a two tired bicycle. till this day i have an obsession with bicycles because of what it depicts to me. You are a true teacher, father, and a Legend. long live daddy. Happy birthday! “

Joey cleverly ties the childhood bicycle lesson to life’s bigger metaphor balance on “two tired” (likely a heartfelt typo for “two-tired”) wheels showing how those simple moments shaped his perspective and even sparked a lifelong fascination with bikes.
At 36 years old (born August 20, 1989), Joey B has built a legendary career representing Ghana globally, from his early breakthroughs to recent features like the 2025 Hennessy Cypher. Moments like this remind fans that behind the music is a grounded son who credits his upbringing for his success.
The post has sparked waves of love from followers, with many sharing their own father-son stories and praising Joey for keeping family front and center. Happy 70th Birthday to the legend himself may he continue inspiring the next generation.
